Winter Clinic
The Annual Middlesex Reds Baseball Winter Academy is held from mid-January through mid-Marchfor 8-10 consecutive Sundays for 2 hours each week. Time’s vary each year. The Academy is run inside the Reds home batting cages facility at Medford High School.
The Reds Winter Academy is for players ages 8 through 14 years old that are looking to advance their overall skills throughout the off-season as they prepare for their upcoming baseball season.
Players will run through the same drills as all Reds teams do during their winter practice season and players drills will be age appropriate. Skills covered throughout the Winter Academy will include: Pitching
Defense (infield & outfield play)
Hitting
Catching
Baserunning
Game situations
Coach John Hayes and other members of the Reds coaching staff will run the Academy and provide all the coaching throughout the 8-10 weeks. The coaches will always be sure to keep the drills age appropriate and fun, while working to advance the player’s overall skills so they are ready for their upcoming season, just as all the Reds teams do during their winter practice season.
Coach Hayes is a former collegiate catcher/infielder at Suffolk University and has been a member of the Middlesex Reds staff since 2015. He has coached many players within the program at all age levels from 10 to 18 years old, seeing players new to the program develop into highly skilled high school athletes as well as assisting our high school players achieve their goal of playing college baseball. Players who sign up will enjoy the benefits of a coach who’s both played and worked with both professional, college and high school athletes at all levels. His post college career found him in the top local amateur Intercity League where he was a lock down shortstop and backstop as a catcher on 3 different ICL teams, reaching the Finals in 2016 as a player-coach. His coaching philosophy and hands-on approach has helped a number of players earn All-League status in high school, and All-Conference accolades in college.
